8 hours of the Walk-Up Classic crowd in 30 seconds:

North America’s premier tattoo shop, Great Lakes Tattoo has defied categorization and surpassed expectations since its inception in 2013.  Born from a simple idea to create an elegant, comfortable space with an attitude-free atmosphere, veteran tattooer Nick Colella, alongside his wife Sarah Colella, recruited some of the best long-standing and up-and-coming tattooers to round out their artist roster and curated what is easily the best shop in Chicago and beyond.  Great Lakes Tattoo also houses an art gallery and event space - the Great State Gallery - which presents art shows, literature readings, live music events and more.  Additionally, Great Lakes tattoo showcases a hugely important collection of tattoo memorabilia and hosts guest tattooers every month from all over the globe, keeping Chicago on the map as one of the best places for tattoo art and culture in the world, and preserving the art of tattooing - past, present, and future.

With the motto of "cleanliness and civility", Great Lakes Tattoo has garnered worldwide critical acclaim for it’s pioneering and industry-wide influential annual Walk Up Classic, which sees the shop host 20+ tattooers in its space for one weekend every March.  The event features GLT residents as well as guests from all over the world, and some past participants include world renowned artists such as Mike Rubendall, Robert Ryan, Scott Sylvia, Dan Smith, Steve Byrne, and many others.  Each year, the troupe has completed over 200 tattoos in two days and the Walk Up Classic has become a destination for tattoo collectors and art lovers alike.

Furthermore, Great Lakes Tattoo has been featured in the media on local and global scales, having received praise from such highly-regarded publications such as Inked Magazine, TattooDo, Nerdist, Nine Mag, HIghlark, Time Out, the Chicago Sun-Times and countless others.
